Braids - “Plath Heart”
It’s been about over a week since their excellent debut Native Speaker (Kanine/Flemish Eye) was released, and here comes the first video for their track “Plath Heart” from Montreal’s Braids. It happens to be quite a delightful trip through a hairy tube.
YOUTH Mixtape by verb/re/verb
Via verbreverb:
As you may or may not know I’m 15 (about to be 16); although you may not know that as I’ve been mistaken for the polar opposite of myself numerous times, but that’s another story. Recently there has been a truly inspiring upsurge in young musical talents, and thus a broader appreciation for youth’s work. The vast appreciation for our work has put me...

Toro Y Moi - “Still Sound”
Definitely loving the cinematic 8mm retro feel of Toro y Moi’s brand new video for his disco smooth-funk track, “Still Sound” from the upcoming LP Underneath The Pine (due out Feb 22, via Carpark). More importantly, Chaz’s moves are down right fresh. (Video directed by Steven Daniels.)

Kitteh Fur - “The Last Day Of Our Acquitance”
Great video for the song “The Last Day Of Our Acquitance” (Sinead O’Connor cover) by Kitteh Fur. It seems the band’s overt love for kittens may have manifested itself onto the video. Nonetheless, a heart warming video and song indeed. You can download the cover at Kitteh Fur’s bandcamp.

Keep Shelly in Solaris
Keep Shelly In Athens (last weeks pick for “Feature Friday”) gets remixed by Irish duo Solar Bears for the song “Running Out of You.” Solar Bears, whose name was inspired by sci-fi filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsy, transform the track into a lush, intergalactic lullaby. You can purchase/stream Solar Bears’ most recent album She Was Coloured In, as well as view other info...

Cloud Nothings - “Should Have”
Video for Cloud Nothings’ track “Should Have”: What happens when lo-fi bands with hi-fi talents get to record in the right kind of studio with the right kind of producing. God, this song is sweet butter to my ears. Actually, pretty much everything Dylan Baldi writes is a knockout. Weird, cute high school kids ‘eating each other’s...

Feature Friday: Keep Shelly in Athens
With every release from Keep Shelly In Athens, we are instantly drawn more and more in. Not much is known about the mysterious Grecian boy-girl duo (?) except that they magically churn out beautiful tracks out of thin air that everyone immediately wants a piece of, and then disappear without a trace, leaving us wanting more. Last year, they released the EP In Love With Dusk 12 ″ (via Forest...

Honeydrum - “The Cuban”
Not much is known about Honeydrum, except for the fact that they hail from New Jersey and seem to be very consistent with making music videos. They just recently finished wrapping up their last video for “The Cuban” off of their self-titled EP Honeydrum. Director Vincent DeMort responsible for the video, set out to create a music video for each...

Feature Friday: Braids
One of the most anticipated albums to arrive in 2011 belongs to Montreal’s four-piece band Braids with their long-awaited debut Native Speaker. For such a young band that started out during their last year of high school, taking the bold step of moving across the country together from Calgary, Alberta to Montreal, the sudden heavy hype associated with the band is nonetheless justified. The...

Smooth Faces
Brothertiger’s new remix of Casa Del Mirto’s track “Faces” has got to be one of the smoothest things to come out of 2011 yet, and it’s definitely our favourite remix out of Brothertiger’s arsenal of past mixes aside from his Keep Shelly In Athens’ “Running Out Of You” remix. Casa Del Mirto is also a pretty tight band, especially if...

Pandit - “Pack Your Bags”
A stunning video on the delicate nature of relationships and heartbreak by Tyler T. Williams set to the track “Pack Your Bags” by Pandit. Pandit’s full-length debut Eternity Spin is one of the highly anticipated releases of the new year (appearing on our list here), and this video certainly augments the growing hype.

Feature Friday: Twin Sister
Twin Sister is among the many bands of 2010 who have caught our attention in only a mere matter of time. The band who hail from New York formed their official full fledged band around 2008, and already have two prolific EPs released to date Vampires with Dreaming Kids and Colour Your Life, quickly proving that they are a band to watch out for. Listening to the two EPs, it’s difficult to...

Wuts Goin Thru Yer Head
Late last year, Vancouver’s Little Jungles released the LP Wuts Goin Thru Yer Head, a record that has recently emerged from under the radar within the blogging community. Yours Truly has likened comparisons to Panda Bear and Bruce Springsteen, an accurate conflation. Indeed, the record showcases elements of shoegazey pop, and fuzzy vocal/instrumental distortions characteristic of...
