“Nothing Will Grow” is a brand new one from Kelowna’s Little Jungles. The last time we checked in with Little Jungles’ Matthew Niemann was with his debut album Wuts Goin Thru Yer Head in March last year. This year, he’s gearing up for his forthcoming album slated for a release in the spring titled I Would Kill for Some Sunlight. The first track giving us a glimpse of the album is “Nothing Will Grow” which offers a more refined somber sound with its guitar-led melodies than the lighter lo-fi pop one we previously heard in his earlier release. Nonetheless, we are intrigued by this departure and we look forward to the rest of his stuff, but for now you can pick up the track and his previous LP over at Bandcamp.

Wuts Goin Thru Yer Head

Late last year, Vancouver’s Little Jungles released the LP Wuts Goin Thru Yer Head, a record that has recently emerged from under the radar within the blogging community. Yours Truly has likened comparisons to Panda Bear and Bruce Springsteen, an accurate conflation. Indeed, the record showcases elements of shoegazey pop, and fuzzy vocal/instrumental distortions characteristic of chillwave sounds, but instead of tip toeing around subjects of love and life’s woes, Little Jungles approaches them head on with telling tracklist titles that together unfold a story, and poetic lyrics supported by vocals unadulterated by inaudible instrument distortions. Instead a clear cut message is expressed encompassed within a hazy, dreamy atmosphere.
Wuts Goin Thru Your Head is available for download via bandcamp through the pay-what-you-can method, but we encourage you to purchase it, as it is well worth it. Little Jungles is currently working on a new album due out sometime in spring and have an upcoming show alongside Sea Pony and Fine Mist @ the Cobalt in Vancouver (Jan 28) so be sure to check them out if you can. Below are a couple tracks just to prove how good the stuff is.
